Puno, the capital city of Peruvian folklore, is located along the banks of Lake Titicaca (at 3'827 meters above sea level - 12'555 ft). It has a dry climate, sunny during the day and very cold at night. Puno housed the development of a highly civilized culture: Tiahuanaco. This culture was the ultimate expression of the ancient town of Aymara, whose archaeological remains are of great admiration. Puno is popular for its folkloric festivities, songs and dances. In fact, Puno lists approximately 300 traditional dances, which are performed by its inhabitants to narrate their history.
