The department of Tumbes is situated in northwestern Peru. It is bordered by Ecuador on the north and east, Piura on the south; and by the Pacific Ocean on the north and west. Tumbes has a total area of 4'669 km2, including 12 km2 of oceanic island. The region has a subtropical climate, with sun almost all year-round. The average temperature is 24º C (75.2° F). The main attractions of Tumbes are its beautiful beaches, where tourists come all year-round to relax, explore the forests and mangroves. This region definitely has a particular charm.
